PHS Laundryserv help save West Bromwich Albion’s laundry from a fiery relegation!

When fire all but destroyed the laundry at West Bromwich Albion’s training ground, PHS Laundryserv stepped in to help ensure the players could continue to play in clean kit whilst they worked on re-kitting out the laundry room.

When the laundry ladies of West Bromwich Albion’s training ground went home after a hard day of washing sweaty football kit, they didn’t expect that that would be the last time they would be able to use their laundry equipment. But as a fire ripped through the unoccupied laundry that night, that’s just what happened.

The fire at the training ground in Walsall, happened after a busy day shift when thankfully all the players and staff had left for the day. The fire destroyed the laundry equipment – four washers and four dryers as well as kit, towels and other items and caused many thousands of pounds worth of damage. Luckily for the clubs immediate laundry needs however, their laundry equipment supplier, PHS Laundryserv, was located only a few minutes away in Smethwick. Lynne Vanes, Managing Director of PHS Laundryserv explained, “We have a fully operational training room facility at our head office which we use to provide best practice training for our customers, so when we heard about the fire, we were only too happy to make our facilities available for the West Bromwich laundry team to use, and as our head office is literally around corner from the West Bromwich stadium, we couldn’t have been more conveniently located!”

A championship football team such as West Bromwich Albion produces a lot more laundry than might be first be expected – as with a first team as well as reserves, youth and academy teams all training on a daily basis and with the likelihood of multiple kit changes throughout the day, that’s a lot of muddy, sweaty training gear as well as towels that need to be washed and dried. In fact they produced so much washing, the laundry processed up to 40 wash loads every day. It was therefore imperative that the laundry be refurbished and new equipment installed as quickly as possible.

As soon as the damaged laundry room had been refurbished, Laundryserv pulled out all the stops to install four new Primus 16kg washers, four Primus 23kg dryers and detergent auto-dosing systems to get the laundry room back up and working in next to no time. Mo, the laundry manager for West Bromwich commented, “Immediately after the fire, the support Laundryserv offered us was excellent. They were kind enough to offer us the use of their facilities to enable us to wash what kit that hadn’t been destroyed and was still in use by the teams, and they re-equipped the laundry with new washers and dryers in double quick time!”
